‘There was an idea to bring together, a group of remarkable people to see if we could become something more so when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could.’

A 2 part prelude comic was released recently that fills in what our heroes have been up to during the gap between Civil War and Infinity War. It also sheds some light on the Infinity Stones that Thanos, the villain of the upcoming movie, sets out to collect. Lets start with…
Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther
(Source: Civil War)
Part 1 of the prelude provides more detail of the ending of Civil War and also what some of the heroes have been up to. It picks up after the battle Cap and Bucky had with Iron Man. Exiting the facility, they meet with an apologetic Black Panther who wants to assist Bucky with getting rid of what Hydra implanted in his mind claiming he may know someone who can help (a.k.a Shuri, whom we now know is his sister). Before meeting up with T’Challa in Wakanda, Cap breaks into The Raft and frees his allies. The rest simply consists of Winter Soldier being put into cryo-sleep stasis, which we saw in an after-credit scene of Civil War and Shuri explaining how she plans on ‘fixing’ his mind. In an after-credit scene in Black Panther, we see that Shuri was successful and now moves on to building him a new arm. This scene also name drops Bucky’s new code name – White Wolf.

It then transitions to Syria, probably sometime later just before Infinity War takes place, where Cap, Falcon and Black Widow take down a group who illegally got their hands on some Chitauri weapons. This just shows what these 3 characters are up to during the time gap, still fighting the good fight in small ways.

Next, we see Tony Stark in the Avengers Compound with Spiderman’s Iron Spider armour sitting in the background. His mind still stuck on the vision he had when Scarlet Witch played with his mind in Age of Ultron and is preparing for a dangerous threat that he feels is coming. We also get to see a holographic blueprint of his Bleeding Edge armour that he will suit up in during the movie.

Doctor Strange and Thor: Ragnarok
(Source: Doctor Strange)
In this 2nd part of the prelude, we see Dr Strange in the New York Sanctum Sanctorium meditating when he is interrupted by Wong. He tells Strange of this feeling that something might soon be coming and as Mordo said at the end of the Doctor Strange movie, ‘The bill comes due. Always.’ He then continues to explain to Strange the details and whereabouts of the 5 other infinity stones with the 6th one in the possession of Dr Strange already. Wong explains where the stones first popped up when they are interrupted by the presence of Thor and Loki in New York, as seen in Thor: Ragnarok as the two of them are looking for their father. The rest of this is seen in the movie where Dr Strange provides the brothers some assistance.

Later, Strange returns to Sanctum and the 2 continue their conversation. Wong states that there is still one stone that’s whereabouts are unknown and may be the most powerful one. He continues by saying they’ll ‘need to prepare for the greatest battle the universe has ever seen.’ Foreshadowing Thanos’ coming.

There is also a connection with some scenes from the Infinity War trailer that tie-up with this scene portrayed in the comic. An after-credit scene in Thor: Ragnarok shows Thanos’ ship approaching Thor’s ship with the rest of the Asgardians and a few others. There are scenes from the trailer that indicate Thanos’ steps foot onto the Asgardian ship in search of the Space stone, located in the Tesseract which Loki took before the destruction of Asgard. One can predict that Thanos is successful in doing so and lays waste to the Asgardians. Based on other shots from the trailer, Thor and Hulk probably get thrown out into space where Thor ends up crashing into the ship of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Hulk on the other hand crash lands on Earth, right through the roof of the Sanctum Sanctorium. This scene happens right after Wong and Strange have their discussion in the prelude comic.

Avengers: Infinity War trailer
As we can see the prelude comic fills in the gaps that are not explained in the previous movies. Some details from the trailer also give us some details about how the rest of the characters come back together. After Hulk crashes into the Sanctum, Dr Strange probably calls Stark who shows up just as Thanos’ ship approaches Earth. We also get a glimpse of Tony holding the phone given to him by Cap, probably to notify him of the threat. Not far from the Sanctum is where Peter Parker is on a school trip and after his spidey-sense detects the threat suits up and goes after the ship. There is probably some fight that takes place before Dr Strange, Tony and Peter all meet up in the ship itself when it takes off into space. Some of the Guardians eventually bump into the trio as well.

On the other hand, there is also another huge fight scene that takes place in Wakanda. Most of the remaining Avengers are seen there for the fight. They probably end up there seeking the help of Shuri to remove the Mind stone from Vision without killing him. Cap reunites with his old friend, Bucky, who now has a clear mind and a new Vibranium arm. At the same time Thanos and his forces come in to retrieve it. The characters that can be seen in this fight is Cap, Bucky, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Black Panther and Bruce Banner in the Hulkbuster 2.0 (probably changing back to Hulk later) just to name a few.

There are obviously going to be more fight sequences in this movie, such as one of what looks to be ruins of Thanos’ home planet, Titan, but these are the two obvious ones from the trailer.

The Infinity Stones
(Source: Thanos and Infinity Stones)
What are these infinity stones that I keep referring to? Well, this is the main reason why Thanos comes to Earth in the first place, to retrieve all 6 of them. Basically each stone contains different abilities and if all 6 are gathered and put into a gauntlet, gives the user unlimited power. Here are where the 6 currently are:
Space Stone (Blue)
Located in the Tesseract (Avengers), abilities include allowing the user control over space which allows them to open wormholes to other universes. Currently with Loki in the Asgardian ship.
Mind Stone (Yellow)
Located in Loki’s scepter (Avengers), abilities include giving the user psionic powers like telepathy and telekinesis. Currently on the forehead of Vision.
Reality Stone (Red)
Located in the Aether (Thor: The Dark World), abilities include granting the user immense strength, durability and powers. Currently in the possession of the Collector.
Power Stone (Purple)
Located in Orb (Guardians of the Galaxy), abilities include increasing the user’s physical abilities and allows user to manipulate energy. Currently with the Nova Corps on Xandar.
Time Stone (Green)
Located in the Eye of Agamotto (Doctor Strange), abilities include manipulation of time. Currently in the possession of Dr Strange in the Sanctum.
Soul Stone (Orange)
Location still unknown. Only thing we know is that it may be the greatest threat of all, according to Wong.

With all this information, you can know go into the cinema with some form of knowledge of what happens on the screen. This movie is a definite must watch for anyone ranging from comic book geek to simple movie lovers.
